Process
The first step after a death is to have it pronounced by an appropriate official — attending physician, approved hospice nurse or medical examiner. If you loved one dies in a hospital, nursing home, hospice or other facility, this will be done on site. If he/she dies at home or unattended, and is not enrolled in a hospice program, you must contact the police.
It is important to locate the deceased’s letter of instructions or funeral pre-arrangements.
At Wesche Funeral Home, we are on call 24 hours a day/seven days a week. Whether your loved one has a pre-arranged funeral service with us or not, you can call us. We will take your loved one into our care either immediately or sooner thereafter, if family members and friends need a period of time to say goodbye.
Our staff will be on hand to meet with you to discuss the type of arrangements that fit your requirements and budget.
We will need the following information about the deceased:
- Full name
- Date of birth
- Place of birth
- Social Security number
- Address
- Father’s name, mother’s maiden name
- Occupation
- Education level
- Spouse’s maiden name
- Next of kin name, address and phone number
- Discharge papers, if a veteran
- Insurance papers/insurance information
We will need to know the desired location for his/her burial or disposition. And you will need you to bring in the clothing and/or jewelry that you want your loved one to wear. A recent photo is always helpful, especially for a woman so the hairdresser has a feel for the style your loved one wore in life.
Traditional & Memorial Services
Each traditional service is created to reflect the wishes of the family and the individuality of the deceased.
Options include, but are not limited to:
- One or two days that encompasses time for friends and family to pay their respects.
- Visitation at religious institutions or other venues (Subject to availability).
- Religious services (at the funeral home or a house of worship).
- Burial or cremation after visitation and services.
- Gravesite services without visitation.
- Immediate cremation without visitation.
- Memorial services without remains of the deceased (at the funeral home or a house of worship).
- Placement of newspaper notices
- Securing of Certified Transcrips of Death
Cremation
Many people chose cremation over traditional burial for any number of reasons. And we understand those choices. We offer many cremation options from very basic through traditional viewing with cremation following.
Cremation is an alternative to burial and doesn’t preclude a traditional funeral service.
Selection of caskets, urns and burial vaults
A selection of caskets, urns and vaults are are available for your inspection, offering you options that are both affordable and appropriate.
Monuments
We provide referrals to pre-screened, qualified, competent outside monument suppliers.
Life Tributes
Life tributes incorporate meaningful, personal items or activities into the service to pay tribute to the deceased.
Options can include:
- A memorial table displaying photographs, memorabilia and reflections of the person’s life
- Placement of items — from relatives and/or friends or the deceased — in the casket.
- Photographic life collage or DVD —depicting the person’s life through photos of important people and events.
- Participation of family or friends in the traditional service/burial:
- Reading prayers or poems; offering personal comments or remembrances.
- Placing flowers in the casket at the conclusion of the service.
- Acting as pallbearer or honorary pallbearer.
- Assisting with the pall at the house of worship.
- Assisting with committal flowers at the cemetery.
- Memorial tributes following cremation or burial.
Grief Support
Wesche Funeral Home provides families with a wide-range of bereavement support and resources tailored to fit their individual needs.
We believe children should participate in the grieving process and will be happy to guide you as your include in the remembrance of their loved one.
